Column: Jim Smith jump-started a fledgling Boys Club in Gainesville
Lanier Boys and Girls Club is a far cry from its humble beginnings as Gainesville-Hall County Boys Club in the 1950s.
Nobody knows that better than Jim Smith, who was executive director when the club was in an old house at 211 Sycamore St., now E.E. Butler Parkway.
